Milky Way

Floating in the hot tub after moonset, the stars sharp as knife points, the faint trail of the milky way smeared across the sky, the creek hissing, the faintest breeze stirring the leaves. Bliss

I know how lucky I am, how decadently luxurious this life is. How can anyone ever 'deserve' this? Logically, morally, honestly, I can't, I don't. And yet, here I am.

All I can do is share it all freely and never take any of it for granted. All I can do is give thanks and try in some inadequate way to pay it all forward.

Thanks

Another Colestine Camp Out is in the books, campers.

It's amazing to me how far you travel, how hard you work to make this event happen.

Anything worth having is worth working for and anything worth doing is worth doing well, right? Apparently, each of us has made the decision that this weekend is worth having and worth doing well.

I often say that this blog is a cheap form of therapy for me. The camp out is another form of therapy. By the time I was 18 I had attended two elementary schools, two jr. high schools and two high schools. Between the ages of 18-30 I lived in more places than I can count. I never put down roots until I landed on this piece of land 16 years ago. We have gathered 17 times in 16 years; that represents some very deep roots to a peripatetic creature like me.

So, thank you. Thank you for travelling, thank you for contributing, thank you for caring. Thank you for the work, thank you for the fun. Thank you for making this happen, thank you for making me feel like I belong to something larger.

Sequoia and I, we are only caretakers; you make the magic happen.

More pictures to follow in the days to come.

Gimpy

In an episode of cosmic justice, I was running around like a crazy person this morning, trying to do too much, and I fell hard as I was coming down the back stairs. Twisted my ankle pretty severely. Sequoia wanted to put me on injured reserve, but I have too much to do. Try not to laugh to hard when you see me walking funny.

Weather Report

I don't want to say this too loud and tempt the gods, but the weather guessers are predicting NO RAIN this weekend. It's supposed to be mostly sunny with temps in the low 70s. Sounds just about perfect for everything except water sports.

We've made an executive decision to forego setting up the slip & slide this year. I know this will come as a huge disappointment for the younger crowd, but it's the right call. We'll have to find some other way to keep them occupied. Perhaps water guns...

Jerry Claus to the Rescue

I've just received a very special request from old
friends from long ago. And, they've asked for a
reunion...that I understand is held yearly in the
Valley of the Colestine ... to have sunny, warm &
dry weather. Bill, Janis and I will make the vibe so.

Do remember me around your campfire after a
fun, sunny day of play and perhaps strike up
something like I always played...like..."Sugaree".
